After a long trip from Guinea to Dakar for a short stay, my mother and I have been here for 12 months, without my family, without my friends, without anything… only the pain that will never go away and my mother, who prays endlessly that I will finally, and painlessly, be free to shine amongst the stars |

In Gambia I could play sports, football, until … the first cancer was diagnosed. My arm and leg were amputated, along with all my dreams! Until I got a prosthesis, a new leg, and was able to walk and play again. Until… November 2018 when they found a new swelling in my other leg. On December 11th, I travelled with my mother, my father and my brother Kalipha to Dakar, Senegal – an exhausting eight-hour trip – to save this leg. Examinations, scans, blood transfusions, artificial respiration, morphine. They tried everything possible and impossible. Exhausted, I pleaded: “Mother, please let me die…” On December 29th, I took leave of my family and travelled back with them to Gambia in a sparse coffin to be put to rest in the warm soil of my homeland. |
